Dwarflab Dwarf 3 Teardown (OTA)

Finally got in there. Removing every screw seemingly related to holding the OTA barrel in place, then pulling the ends firmly away from each other bends things enough to pull the assembly out.

The already removed optical window plate is made of aluminium and acts as a heatsink, hence the thermal paste. It's fixed in place with a flexible sealant, which gets damaged when the plate's prised away.

There's also a rear aluminium heatsink, this time held in place by an adhesive thermal putty.

The dec rotator plate appears to be secured to the stepper motor using the same bolt and compressible washer system as the alt mechanism shown in the partial teardown.

Removing a few screws allows the lens/circuit assembly to slide out of the tube.

The body's wrapped all around in copper sheet.

Telephoto sensor housing.

Self-contained wide angle camera.

Focuser drive mechanism.

Filter unit.

Filter unit opened up, cute.

With the focus drive assembly removed the central lens cell moves freely along the two guide rods.
